Psychiatric Service Dog (PSD) Handlers' Annual Gathering 1st Annual PSD Handler Gathering in Arlington, VA, July 2005 The first annual Psychiatric Service Dog Society (PSDS) gathering of PSD handlers took place on July 16th, 2005, in Arlington, VA. PSD handlers and their dogs drove long distances, rode trains, and airplanes, in order to participate in this exciting community-building event. Twenty-two humans and ten dogs attended the gathering. Guests came from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Tennessee. A good time was had by all. Some stayed overnight and re-convened the next morning for brunch. PSDS founder Dr. Joan Esnayra states the gathering will become an annual PSDS event. Keep this in mind when making your travel plans next summer. PSD gatherings are ‘chicken soup for the soul’.
